Question:
Why are some of my Calling Card calls at a higher rate?
Answer:
Calls that show up on your bill that have an asterisk (*) in front of the call is a call made from a payphone. Payphone calls, when made using a Travel Card or an 800 number, DO have an extra payphone surcharge added, per call. Payphone owners were losing funds because of users NOT having to insert money to use an 800 number or a calling card. So, the FCC and the U.S. Government agreed to allow payphone owners to charge for those 800 number and Travel Card calls. The surcharge is $0.65 per call, added to the charge of the call.
